As part of the “Sharm El Sheikh Mitigation Ambition and Implementation Work Programme” (hereinafter – the UNFCCC mitigation program), a global dialogue will take place in 2025 on the topic of “Mitigation Solutions in Waste Management, including the use of Circular Economy Approaches.”
The event will bring together representatives of the public and private sectors, as well as expert organizations and academia in the field of waste management and climate change.
In connection with the preparation of the Russian position for the aforementioned event, as well as the need to reflect the contribution and specific efforts of the public and private sectors to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the field of waste management, we kindly request current materials, practices, and proposals on the above topic, including in areas such as:
– Use of secondary resources and secondary raw materials from waste in the agricultural sector (utilization of livestock and crop waste and production of organic products from them);
– Involvement of waste in product manufacturing in various sectors of the economy (reducing the disposal of industrial waste in landfills, extracting valuable components from waste, and producing products using secondary raw materials);
– Development of a municipal solid waste management system (forming a system for separate waste collection, including organic waste, reducing the volume of waste sent to landfills, and recycling waste prohibited from landfilling);
– Application of secondary resources, secondary raw materials from waste in construction and housing and communal services (reducing waste for disposal and involving waste as secondary raw materials);
– Development of climate projects in the field of waste utilization.
The materials will be used to prepare the official statement of the Russian Federation on the UNFCCC mitigation program for publication on the UNFCCC portal.
In connection with the above, please send the specified materials, preferably in the form of abstracts, by letter no later than August 8, 2025. to the email address climate@rspp.ru
